The Blessing of a Semiquincentennial

Song at Midnight Posted on July 4, 2026 by JackieJuly 4, 2026

Hello, and welcome to another blessing Sunday. Traveling with me on this path are
Lynda Lambert who shared the idea with me

and

Abbie Johnson Taylor.

A flag & birthday cake w/happy 250th written on it.

So what in blazes is a Semiquincentennial? It stands for 250. Semi means half, quin is 5, and centennial is 100–thus, half of 500.

Today we observe the 250th anniversary of the declaration of Independence. 56 men put their signatures and their lives on the line by signing the Declaration of Independence in 1776. An 8-year war raged, beginning in 1775 and ending in 1783, w/the United States of America being a separate, independent nation at its conclusion.

Throughout the years, America has weathered exhilarating highs and abyssmal depths, but she’s always come through, stronger and better than before. My prayer is this will continue to be the case.

On Nov. 10, 1938, Kate Smith first introduced what would become her signature song, “God Bless America.” She still does it better than anyone else, IMO. Here’s a link. The sound quality is that of an old time radio broadcast, but Kate nonetheless comes shining through.

Kate Smith’s God Bless America 11-10-1938

Here’s to thousands more years of the United States being a bastian of strength and freedom.

Scripture Amos 5:24 NIV But let justice roll on like a river,
    righteousness like a never-failing stream!

Praying for the Nation: a Uniting Prayer

Song at Midnight Posted on August 23, 2024 by JackieAugust 23, 2024

Praying Hands

Many in America want to pray for our nation. But how? Praying for our own agenda to me, at least, feels arrogant. I’ve given it a lot of thought, and I’m convinced that we can do no better than praying the Scriptures. The verse I’m proposing is relatively short, easy to remember, and embraces all 3 Abrahamic faith traditions–Jewish, Christian, and Moslem. Truth be told, I think it can resonate even with those who have no faith tradition, because I believe there are a wide variety of ways to pray. The verse is Amos 5:24:
Let justice flow like a river, and righteousness like a never-failing stream. (NIV).

I personally am trying to pray it 5 times throughout the day, beginning at 9 a.m. & going through 9 PM at 3hr intervals–or whenever I happen to think about it. It takes very little time.

If you find this strikes a chord with you, please do share. I think this country needs all the prayers we can get. & others can join in praying for their countries using it as well.

Prayer for the Nations 11-17-22

Song at Midnight Posted on November 17, 2022 by JackieNovember 13, 2022

3 The legal experts and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery. Placing her in the center of the group,
4 they said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery.
5 In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone women like this. What do you say?”
6 They said this to test him, because they wanted a reason to bring an accusation against him. Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.
7 They continued to question him, so he stood up and replied, “Whoever hasn’t sinned should throw the first stone.”
John 8:3-7 CEB

Prayer for the Nations 11-16-22

Song at Midnight Posted on November 16, 2022 by JackieNovember 13, 2022

1 The earth is the LORD’s and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants too.
2 Because God is the one who established it on the seas; God set it firmly on the waters.
3 Who can ascend the LORD’s mountain? Who can stand in his holy sanctuary?
4 Only the one with clean hands and a pure heart; the one who hasn’t made false promises, the one who hasn’t sworn dishonestly.
5 That kind of person receives blessings from the LORD and righteousness from the God who saves.
Psalm 24:1-5 CEB

Prayer for the Nations 11-8-22

Song at Midnight Posted on November 8, 2022 by JackieNovember 8, 2022

28 We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.
29 We know this because God knew them in advance, and he decided in advance that they would be conformed to the image of his Son. That way his Son would be the first of many brothers and sisters.
30 Those who God decided in advance would be conformed to his Son, he also called. Those whom he called, he also made righteous. Those whom he made righteous, he also glorified.
Romans 8:28-30 CEB

Just reminding myself of this on election day, in case those I want to win don’t. Or do. He does all things well, per Mark 7:37. And this place, after all is said and done, isn’t our real home. May each day bring us all closer to conforming to the image of Jesus. Then we can truly be the light of the world and the salt of the earth.

36 “Teacher, what is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 He replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind.
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: You must love your neighbor as you love yourself
40 All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”
Matt 22:36-40 CEB

Prayer for the Nations 11-2-2022

Song at Midnight Posted on November 2, 2022 by JackieNovember 2, 2022

5 But anyone who needs wisdom should ask God, whose very nature is to give to everyone without a second thought, without keeping score. Wisdom will certainly be given to those who ask.
6 Whoever asks shouldn’t hesitate. They should ask in faith, without doubting. Whoever doubts is like the surf of the sea, tossed and turned by the wind.
7 People like that should never imagine that they will receive anything from the Lord.
8 They are double-minded, unstable in all their ways.
James 1:5-8 CEB
